pregnancy + postpartum must haves

i’ve been slowly but surely gathering a list of must-haves for new mamas and mamas-to-be! everything from clothes to supplements to birthing and pain relief supplies, these are things that have been most crucial for me in pregnancy and postpartum.

PREGNANCY MUSTS

here’s the deal on each of these products:

  • prenatal: I did so much research on prenatals before this pregnancy and landed on this one! no synthetic vitamins — everything in it is derived from whole, organic food!

  • vitamin d: if you need additional vitamin d, this is a great option. you can also up your intake when you’re postpartum so baby gets it through your breastmilk!

  • magnesium glycinate: an absolute MUST for better pregnancy sleep. I have a terrible time sleeping when i’m pregnant and this helps tremendously. lots of people are magnesium deficient, so this is great to take whether you’re pregnant or not.

  • organic raspberry leaf tea: get that cervix soft + ready for childbirth! organic, loose-leaf, affordable.

  • Isabel maternity leggings: don’t bother splurging on expensive leggings. i’ve tried them all and I still go back to the Isabel maternity leggings from target. they’re the best. period.

  • maternity biker shorts: if you wanna feel like a cool pregnant girl…you need these in your life.

  • aerie distressed boyfriend tee: I loveeee these for my big belly. they’re long enough, good quality, and affordable. honestly, you need one in every color!

  • birthing ball: i’ve used this throughout pregnancy to relieve back pain and plan to use it during labor as well. worth every penny!

  • coop body pillow: every pregnant girl needs a body pillow. TRUST ME. and this one is green guard certified non-toxic. I have a discount code for this one coming soon, so if you plan on grabbing this, check back for the code in the next few days!

  • books: ina may’s guide to childbirth, the birth partner, and real food for pregnancy are all quick, easy MUST reads for pregnancy!

POSTPARTUM MUSTS

okay, let’s break down these postpartum must-haves:

  • haakaa silicone pump: this thing saved my life when I was first breastfeeding. just suction it on the side your baby isn’t nursing on to catch all that good milk! you can build up quite a stash this way.

  • peri bottle: to help gently clean and heal your lady parts

  • peri cooling pads: just trust me and get these. they come with 2 of the coolers and 4 washable covers so you can reuse them I those first few weeks

  • organic pads: buying organic is important for this one since you’ll be wearing these 24/7 for a while!

  • organic nursing pads: disposable and washable — again, make sure you grab organic ones since baby’s mouth will be touching that area often!

  • bedside caddy: i’m SO excited about this one. i’m going to be filling this will literally everything I need postpartum and keeping it by my bed so I can spend the majority of my time there in the first few weeks. diapers, burp cloths, swaddles, nursing pads, snacks, supplements. it’s gonna make life easy. and if I DO decide to move to the couch, I’ll just carry it with me :)

  • bedside cart: same premise, just a little bigger. since baby will be sleeping in our room for a while, I plan to keep it stock with things we will both need often

  • cozy muslin blanket: yall this muslin blanket is huge and so cozy and it just felt like something I would want postpartum for all the snuggles.

  • slippers: who doesn’t want cozy slippers right after they birth a baby?

  • waffle robe: one word: nursing.

  • ember mug: this one is a splurge but coffee does not stay hot when you’re a new mama. this’ll help. I love my ember mug SO much, I use it every day and have no plans of stopping any time soon.

  • bink made mama bottle: helps you track your water intake when you’re pregnant and nursing

  • nursing bra: this is a little thicker, but it’s an easy access, thin, cozy nursing bra for those early days of nursing

  • more nursing bras: these are a little more structured with slightly less coverage. I love that they come in a pack of 5, cuz, in the beginning, you’re gonna be doing a lot of bra washing!

  • socks: again, i’m all about the coziness after having a baby. I got these socks a few months ago and I always reach for them before my others

  • high waisted undies: these are all the rage for postpartum, can’t wait to try them out!

  • cozy outfits: when you’re lounging at home but don’t want to look like a sleep-deprived psycho, I recommend buying a few comfy outfits to hang out in

  • loose waist joggers: these are loose around the waist, cute and affordable. postpartum dreams!

  • baby hats: to keep their little heads warm in those first few days

  • organic burp cloths: just go ahead and buy 50 of these.

  • knitted swaddle/receiving blanket: this is just a sweet little knitted blanket I want to wrap my girl in as soon as she’s born!

that about sums it the heck up for me. i’m sure i’m missing a few things cuz of pregnancy brain. but i’m all about keeping it simple cuz we have enough going on between growing, birthing, and caring for our new babes, amirite? love y’all!
